Leaving tomorrow for Pittsburgh and looking forward to a ceramics vacation. As I’ve mentioned, I am newly on the Board of Directors for Studio Potter, so will be spending a bit of time in the vendor/non-profit area of NCECA. I hope you will come by and check out these latest issues of the magazine (Teaching and Learning, Winter ’07/’08 and Clay and Words, Summer/Fall ’07), back issues, our emerging artist essay contest guidelines, and the awesome new t-shirt designed by Kowkie Durst. Studio Potter is not just for potters anymore–take a look. Hope to see you in Pittsburgh.

I found your blog by clicking on links to it from somewhere…but enjoyed reading about your work and then some.
I’ve never tried throwing standing up – because I was never sure what you would use for leverage.
Speaking of wordpress – I just switched from blogger to wordpress too and love it!
I hope you don’t mind if I add your to my clay artist’s blog roll…
Have fun at NCECA – I’m definitely going next year.
Hi Cynthia, Thanks for the note. Throwing standing–just like all else we do–requires practice. Depending on the wheel, the splash pans can be a leverage rest, but it predominantly comes from leaning/pushing back against the rest I pictured. Give John Glick’s articles a read. Best wishes, Kristen
